| Our spacious and tranquil home in the heart of the French countryside is available for yoga retreats or private hire. The house is set in six acres of private landscaped park land, with a beautiful pool and a Jacuzzi overlooking the garden. Dine under the wisteria on the patio or in the summer kitchen by the pool. The style of the house is unique and is reminiscent of “La Cite” in Carcassonne with semi-circular curved rooms and black slate roof. Access Yoga Journey is located 40 minutes from Carcassonne. Toulouse and Perpignan are 70 minutes. All three airports are well served by budget and national airlines. Local Area The village of Puivert has everything for your day-to-day needs – baker, mini-market, café/bar and restaurant. The lake is 10 minutes walk from the house, offering a sandy beach as well as a café. In the summer there is a night-time market in the streets. Doctors, dentists and a chemist are found in the medieval town of Chalabre, 8 kilometres from Puivert. Needless to say, this being France, you will be spoilt for choice in eating at local restaurants. What and Where Puivert has much to engage the visitor. Not only is its imposing Cathar Castle worthy of a visit, but the Quercorb museum in the heart of Puivert is dedicated to music and documents the history of the local traditions and crafts. Excursions can be made to the nearby market towns of Chalabre and Quillan, both untouched by the vicissitudes of modern tourism. The medieval town of Mirepoix is stunning and described by many guidebooks as “a hidden gem”. This is 30 kilometres away and an easy bike ride. Limoux is the centre for Cremant and Blanquette wines offering numerous caves for wine tasting (and purchasing!) It hosts an annual carnival from January to April, when the streets are alive to the sounds of troubadours and musicians. Carcassonne boasts 2 UNESCO World Heritage Sites: an enchanting fortified medieval city and the Canal du Midi, as well as an arts festival drawing performers from across Europe. In this land of myth and mystery, there are a host of Cathar castles in the area, notably at Peyrepertus, Montsegur and Queribus. In winter there is skiing at Mont Les Olmes (30 minutes) Font Romeu (60 minutes) and Andorra (90 minutes). There are miles of mountain paths awaiting exploration on foot, as well as white water rafting and canoeing, tennis, horse riding, gliding in Puivert and the Mediterranean beaches less than 90 minutes away.
